I'm not going to say COVID restrictions are good. But getting COVID (even a mild Omicron case), still suck ass. 0/10 experience.
Generally though, if they can protect their main stars and other people in charge to keep delays down. Then I think it's a smart move.

Yes, making a carbon credit a valuable commodity. When one company makes a business decision that happens to align with reduced carbon output they earn a credit which they are allowed to sell. They are selling air pollution indulgences like the catholic church. There are literally companies created to mine carbon credits.
Another company buys the credit so the net pollution savings is zero if a credit didn't have to go through an exchange which can limit the exchange rate. It's still really close to zero because of the added industry of the exchange bureaucracy, if not actually creating more pollution.
In the end they are trading air rights, specifically the right to pollute it. Then if a government buys the credit they tax to pay for it. If a business buys a credit they add it to their overhead costs which 100% gets passed to the customer.
Since the entire carbon credits scheme is neutral at best the result is they are selling air.
It seems like we're 100% back on the same page since you've acknowledged carbon credits must be purchased. I've only explained how business works.

No you don't. Its only for filing you have to be accurate. Its always best to get a refund vs pay. My Salary and income varies quite a bit. But increasing your dependent by 1 will help, and add or subract each year depending on how much you need to pay or get back. If you have not enough taken out you could get penalized. I always shoot to get back $1000.

You're in the "why" stage of this and trying to find a reason so it "makes sense." One of the best ways to look at life in general is that many times we never get to know the "why" something happened. With that in mind, focus on you and your future. Invest in yourself and in healing. Give to those in need and find someone who will encourage you and give you the same energy as a reflection of who you are. Good luck!

Reply to What is the right age for people’s parents to stop paying for their children’s stuff and for them to pay themselves? by Nonohnonono
I think it's a gradual shift. Maybe buying toys with allowance at 12 in to get a sense of value, saving up, etc.
At 14 earning money from extra chores or a job to buy non essentials.
At 18 buying own clothes with a job but parents covering other expenses.
Big ticket stuff as the kid is able to earn a living.

This is one place I think AI could get super weird super fast.
We know the capacity for consumer entertainment to advance technology; the whole reason we have the current crop of GPT is because video cards advanced so hard, and the whole reason we have those is mostly gaming.
Sure, GPUs may have emerged without consumer 3D gaming, but nowhere near at our scale. We collectively fund what we love.
Dynamic NPCs are going to be a thing. It'll be primitive at first and will escalate. If the right game hits the right audience and takes off, this may cause a bigger leap towards AGI than any other business or government venture.
With that of course is the question; what hellworld are we trapping these potentially sentient NPCs in?
