Southington. Drive is easy to West Hartford. Then you can go into Waterbury to get on train right into NYC.

That's the game they play. CT should get rid of sales, property, and income tax and give them a new fancy name as a fee, and voila no taxes in CT!

Well, it's about a Wallethub report so yeah, skewing the results is kind of the point.

Why do southern states score so low on quality of life metrics?

More crime? CT violent and property crime rates are 1.6 and 16.1 per 1000 people respectively compared to 6.8 and 22.8 in TN. Violent crimes in TN are more than quadruple that of CT, with nearly 40% more property crime. CT, despite being mostly urban, is still one of the safest states in the country, and without looking it up, likely safer with less crime than every single state south of the Mason-Dixon.

>Researchers said they found that 73 percent of Americans believe the government does not spend their tax dollars wisely. So, they compared the 50 states with three components of state tax burden, including property taxes, individual income taxes, and sales and excise taxes, all as a share of personal income.
So they're leaving out any kind of fee the state charges for something? A yearly registration fee in lots of other states would be roughly equivalent to the property tax charged on a car here. Why not look at all sources of state and local revenue unless you're trying to skew the results to favor fees over taxes?

A step in the right direction would be a law that all single family homes and occupied condos must be owned by an individual or an estate planning trust, not a business.
That would help the situation with investors scooping up properties to flip or rent out as well as taking properties off the market to be used as short term rentals.

This is why you should never build “affordable housing” crime follow poor people. I grew up poor and it was miserable. Never again. Just a never ending pool of despair.

Given that you have to go only 3x per week, move to west hartford to optimize your wife's daily commute. You can drive to the new haven station and take the train 3x per week.
Then one of you can look for a new job.

I did this too but was recommended to switch to copper wool/mesh.
It's a little pricier, but it doesn't degrade as much as steel and is still unpleasant for mice even after oxidizing.

We have 30's house that is balloon framing so they can pretty much move freely. I did a lot of remediation work with copper mesh and spray foam which cut back on the places we knew they were coming in.
I'll look into the fluorescent powder method, might help us see spots we missed.

The exterminator who does our baits bi-annually said they weren't anticoagulants and were fairly safe around pets.
I assume this means they aren't at risk for secondary poisoning

Between 7:10 and 7:15 and nah on average I get in between 8:30 and 8:45.
I have to go past downtown Stamford, so it's not high ridge road or something.

I've done this and this is terrible but manageable. New Haven or around that area. The drive up to West Hartford isn't too bad of a commute with some traffic and you'll take the train otherwise you can have fun driving both ways which will be a nightmare.
