The random crocus that pops up in the middle of my yard every year is blooming! Other things I noticed recently:

  • Daffodils
  • Skunk cabbages
  • Peepers
  • Vernal pools are loud AF with amphibians
  • Lilac, Red Buds, and other trees that I don't know names of are starting to bud
  • Those prickly vines are greening up

The worst. We used them years ago and a few days after the bill would arrive, the phone calls would start from them asking when they would get their payment.

Like one of my coworkers doesn’t even come in like a third of the time, doesn’t call in to tell them before hand that he won’t be there , and they don’t even ask him why to my knowledge.

Like a dog hotel that also does dog walks and doggy daycare. It’s not really a place you got and intend to stay at, but it’s good for college students like me living with my parents and with some free time to work. It’s also a good place to work when searching for other places because it’s so easy to get hired, and so hard to get fired unless your trying to. There’s pretty much zero upward Mobility though. And if your thinking of giving it a shot, remember to bring your own ear plugs. It’s loud and echoey.

Not OP but we are from CA and planning to move to CT in the next 2 years. COL is the main thing and having more space is the other.

I grew up in rural NorCal and loved having space but there are no jobs for my wife or I up there and my little town has a huge meth problem now and is a little bit rundown and sad.

The schools in our area are all 2-3s unless they are private schools that cost 15-30k a year. We make quite a bit combined but our COL is so high that we aren't saving as much as we used to before COVID. It has been rough.

We also have summers of up to 120 here so that sucks, starts in April and goes through Sept/Oct being in the high 80s. It is 76 here today and will be hitting 80s next week.

Edit: Housing is crazy now, when we first moved to this place I was renting a 2 bed apt for 1350 now that same exact one was listed for 3200 last week.

We are also LGBTQ so need a state that is safe for our family.

Walk around in Guilford, CT. Founded in 1639, it’s full of historic homes, including the Hyland House (built 1713), the Thomas Griswold House (built 1764), and the Henry Whitfield State Museum (built 1639–the oldest house in CT and the oldest stone house in New England).

I get the critique of computerized policing and the potential dystopian possibilities around it. That being said , the current practice of police pulling people over for minor traffic infractions is a huge problem for these reasons: 1 - it can lead to dangerous interactions for either the cop or the detainee 2 - minor traffic stops are often used as a pretext for racially discriminatory policing or other forms of biased policing. 3 - minor traffic stops are by default spotty and unfair. Among a line of 10 cars speeding , a cop will pull one of those 10 over while the other 9 get away
