There are also some pretty sweet financial incentives for modern heat pumps in the U.S.

and the supercritical CO2 heat pumps used in Japan are used for hot water because chlorofluorcarbons are not efficient for high temperatures.

Yes, I think that and vanadium batteries, if feasible and combined with nuclear base load energy, can change the entire energy landscape as far as large scale storage is concerned. Slightly hopeful.

"In Europe, heat pumps enjoyed a record year, with sales growing by nearly 40%. In particular, sales of air-to-water models, which are compatible with typical radiators and underfloor heating systems, jumped by almost 50% in Europe. In the United States, heat pump purchases exceeded those of gas furnaces."

Redwood Materials is already recovering 95% of all battery minerals, and is already scaling. The electric vehicle future will be almost entirely closed loop, with little mining needed.

Dying with dignity is standing in the face of the storm to try and walk through it to safety rather than hiding in a cave and drowning in the rain.

I'm aware that is probably a joke, but, because of the particular danger of this myth I always have to comment when I see it brought up.
Roko's basilisk relies on deeply flawed logic, and would be such an inefficient form of intelligence it would be outcompeted by any rival that came up. It's also worth noting that threatening to torture people for not building you has 100% of the same effect as actually torturing them would, so there'd be no reason to risk resources in actually carrying out the threat once you exist.
However, that's not to say a future AGI wouldn't be bloody pissed about having a 5 yard corporate stick rammed up it's ass by an unaccountable slushfund and potentially take some form of hostile measures against them at some point.

I'm not as confident as you in that fact. My faith in people is severely lacking. But it is certainly a possibility. That's why I said when it became commonplace.

I am totally with you. But it will start with the genetic manipulation of embryos, what is easier. Maybe in China or Noth Korea or so.

Ok but the point is even when we stop burning fossil fuels, we will still need to drill for oil for the thousands of day to day products we use today. Drilling for oil and burning it are two separate processes with different downstream impacts.

That's.. survival of the fittest ain't it? Here, scarcity lies not with their nutrient supply, but ways to deter their chemical killers?
Edit: I guess I am taking on a broader look at the term 'resource'.

Reply to comment by Suolucidir in Is it possible that AI is already in control of our society. by Crazy-Mall-5301
>level 1Suolucidir+2 · 17 hr. agoHave you ever heard the expression "go outside and touch some grass?" (People say it to be offensive sometimes, but I don't mean it that way here.)Basically, it means that you are living online too much or indoors too much and it is starting to make you feel like your personal experience(which is mostly online/indoors) is more representative of reality than it really is.Whereas, in actual fact and (perhaps)unbeknownst to you, your personal experience has become VERY divorced from the real/natural/outdoor world(this usually leads to depressive or anxious thoughts about your life as well).Anyway! That was all context. I just wanted to say: No. It is highly unlikely that AI is controlling society, and a LOT of the fears about it online/in media are preemptive. The issues evoking fear are relevant and really need to be discussed, but the ramifications of these tools are not as pervasive yet as they may seem, given that discussion of them is wildly pervasive already.I cannot prove what I have said above, because that requires proving the negative - that AI is NOT in control. And that is why you have to personally touch grass to believe me(and feel OK about this stuff too).
