This motivation doesn’t work for you and that’s okay, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work for someone else. This quote is saying you have to get through the hard to get to the good sometimes, it’s not about jobs

I get what you mean. It’s meant to be another way of saying life won’t always be easy or go through the hard to get to the good. Light at the end of the tunnel kind of thing

Yeah I don't really like the phrasing of this one... maybe instead 'sometimes you need to challenge your comfort levels to get to where you want to be' or something.. Not sure. But 'things you don't want to do' feels a little ick.

Your best bet is to pick a hobby you’re interested in that forces you to interact with people. Some examples are taking a 6 month language course for a country you’d like to visit, or joining a martial arts club, or painting, or yoga - anything to get you out of the house regularly. If it involves nature you get bonus points (hiking , walking, surfing), because it does your mental state a world of good. Any of those clubs are likely to lead to after-club drinks or coffee or lunch where you can make new friends. Exercise is great for the mind too - you’ll feel much better if you’re getting fitter. Any of this will gradually lift your spirits snd improve your confidence, and you’ll not need to rely on your family as much - it sounds like it’s time to begin a new chapter. Since you’ve got a dog, see if there’s any group doggo walks that end in at a pub or cafe.

I like the fact that you can't see the top of the ladder. What if the ladder won't reach the top and he's just stuck there anyway? Assuming someone can get themselves into a better situation based on an opportunity that seems apparent from your perspective may not be the most helpful thing to the person just trying to better themselves.
