No offense but this kinda always scared me about aging. I look at my uncles (all 50s and 60s) and they are overweight and the tough part is that they were just as active as I was. I’m a little worried that I will look like them one day and even if I can turn it around there isn’t much I can do when my metabolism comes to a crashing halt. Thank you for the advice though and I really need to turn this ship around soon because I know I could end up like you a year ago very easily.

the other day i was driving out of the grocery store parking lot. when i turned out of my spot: there was a cart that rolled down to the middle of the aisle near the sewer grate i had to avoid.

I saw this older fella was walking out of his way to go collect and bring it back to a corral or storefront: so I rolled my window down and as I maneuvered around him I hollared "you're awesome! thanks for collecting that!" and his mouth turned into this cheesy proud grin

remember: you shouldn't do things BECAUSE you expect a reward. that defeats the purpose of doing it for "good" in the first place. But this guy was already going out of his way to help and so he totally deserved to be recognized!

Not wrong, but I'm just saying - showing the pretty blue sky above doesn't really quell any of the mixed feelings about why it was so important to save a ladder to nowhere. You can zoom out and show a relatively flat plane just below the other side of the wall and I would question how that's any different then where he started. You would really have to be heavy handled with symbolism of like streets paved with gold on the other side of that wall to make it make sense.

I get it. We all get the heart of the message. That's why OP posted it. ... but there's still an awful lot to unpack.

A quote, funny enough, can be spoken by whoever the fuck wants to use it. My point stands dawg. Others also seem to agree. Wording isn’t great

Fuck this, take life's joys, do the fun not the smart choice. Chill and live. Use those ladder steps to make a fire and sit around it with your friends, roast marshmallows, drink and laugh.

If you want to climb the ladder by all means go for it, but more people today climb it cause they think it's the only thing they can do

I agree with you on that! But not what the quote means :)

It means sometimes in life you have to go through the bad before you get to the good

I’m going to interpret this as pro capitalist propaganda and I refuse to work shit Jobs for my entire life to have a few years of peace when I’m old. Fuck this system I’m motivated to tear it down

The quote is missing some context. In the book, the character was squaring up to face - well, not exactly a rival, but more like her own failures and mistakes that had gotten out of hand and caused people suffering. She's not choosing death, here, but rather choosing to face the consequences of her actions, and if that causes her death, then so be it. Personally, I see this as, if not motivating in and of itself, a good example of someone becoming motivated. If what we wanted was easy and safe, we wouldn't need the motivation.
