To add to the OP reply, mine were cut, tied, and cauterized. And I was still able to get a reversal. But plan on another vasectomy, now…

I had aching during orgasm for years after my vasectomy, as well as regularly frequent torsions after the procedure. After deciding we wanted more kids, I’d had a reversal, and both of these things went away. Is that normal?
Now at 5 kids, we’re definitely done. Are the risks you listed any higher chance on a second vasectomy? Is there anything I can tell the urologist to be aware of regarding the issues I had the first time?

Like the other reply to you, I also had a successful reversal, and added 2 kids. I had to go to a specialist urologist who’s been doing it for a while. Recovery was faster than the vasectomy. Cost was ~$5k out of my own pocket; I had an ancient IRA with about that in it, so I took the penalty and withdrew. The place I went through said if they couldn’t get a success out of the procedure, they’d refund everything accept $600, so we could pursue other options for having kids. If you’re in or near MN, and want to know more about where and who, dm me.

Multiple studies have measured hormone levels, especially testosterone, before and after the procedure and found no significant change in hormone levels. While changes in sexual desire are rare after a vasectomy, they are not related to hormonal changes, as a vasectomy does not affect testosterone, the hormone that fuels sex drive

There are quite a few people exploring this https://differentbrains.org/an-internal-family-systems-perspective-for-autism-ptsd/ https://opendoorstherapy.com/understanding-autism-therapy-california-internal-family-systems-ifs/ and there was a presentation on it in last years IFS conference as well. I have ADHD myself, happy to chat more about it...

I support being on the lookout for scientology, u/themacmeister! 👏 I think any group can become cult-like, and IFS is no exception - especially, as you say, with the fervor it can arouse. I've noticed, for example, that the admiration for the founder, Dick Schwartz, can veer into reverence. I emphasize respect, not reverence - for the founder and for the model itself.
Thanks for looking out for unhealthy dynamics - the world, and IFS, needs that critical eye.

Hi u/Chuymatt, it can be. Any therapy that helps heal childhood trauma will be helpful in this vein.

Hi u/diesiraeSadness, yes - there are a few studies indicating the efficacy of IFS therapy - you can see a list here: https://ifs-institute.com/resources/research When the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREBP) existed (a US government agency listing evidence-based practices phased out in 2018), it recognized Internal Family Systems as an evidence-based practice.
That said, the scientific evidence base for IFS is in its infancy.
Hope this helps!

Hi u/devil_d0c this sounds like a very, very painful situation.
I try not to approach things with a "should" attitude. I think the question is: What's honoring of you? Perhaps you could do some parts work to find out the different needs inside of you.

Hi u/sooshimon, what a fascinating and original relationship you've developed with your inner world. It sounds honoring of yourself as well as gratifying. As an art therapist, I love the expression in the language of colors.
Thank you for sharing with me and everyone reading here.
About integration with the Self:
No, that's not the goal! We'll always have parts and we get to keep them. That's part of being human, and it would be a tragedy to take that away!
As we become more and more healed inside, this typically leads to more of a feeling of integration, of wholeness. But by no means does this nullify our parts.
Let me know if this brings up more questions. I'll be around for another little bit before closing the AMA.

"These parts are either Exiles (the most vulnerable, wounded parts of us which carry the deepest inner pain) or Protectors (which can be further identified as Managers or Firefighters."
Also
"IFS synthesizes the more traditional scientific psychological approach with a shamanic approach". I would never see a SHAMAN in preference to a psycologist/psychiatrist, ESPECIALLY IF THAT SHAMAN IS MYSELF!!!
Also worried about the fervour with which this is being pushed...
Before long, you too will be OT8 (Operating Thetan Level 8)
"Sidenote: Are you aware that many IFS therapists work online?"
You don't say!!!

That's a very weird way to do the statistics on this. Only few men get PPA and only very few men get a vasectomy. How do the numbers look like when we're instead asking "how high is the chance for a man who hasn't got a vasectomy to get aphasia, and how high is the chance for a man who has?"

The side effects for hormonal pills are just the same for women, why are this side effects considered acceptable for women but not for men?

Is there any significative hormonal change after a vasectomy? I'm seeing different answers all around and even being a pharm chemist I can get which ones are right. We don't really go deep on biology...
