A bill had also been introduced in the PA senate (SB 815) to stop this practice. The Republican controlled PA Senate refused to bring it to the floor for a vote after it cleared the health and human services committee. Now it will have to be reintroduced and go through committee again. But since the Senate is still R controlled they probably won't bring it for a vote again.

>"R.M. Palmer has been a presence in the community for decades now," West Reading Borough Council Vice President Phil Wert said Saturday, donating candy to Easter egg hunts and giving back to the community. He said it's the first responders' and elected officials' responsibility "to give back to them because they've given to us."

I gotta say that making sure that first responders understand their responsibility to the factory owners is a Fucking. Bold. Take. Doubly so if it's true as-reported that employees told supervisors that they smelled gas and were told to get back to work about it.

I grew up there too, from the early 1970s through the early 2000s north of Fogelsville and I agree with you. Fascinating area with a lot of great industrial history.

However, I'd urge OP to go see the region before developers finish covering it all over with warehousing with the full approval of economic development guys and naive township supervisors who can't figure out when enough is enough.
