Statistically Stamford is the safest city in the northeast measured by violent crime per capita for communities with 100,000 or more residents. So yes, it's very safe.

There are "worse areas" but it's really not an issue. Any violent crime in Stamford is from two people who know each other. Not hold ups.

Stamford has stayed fairly safe the past few years with the exception of certain streets on the East Side (Route 1 east of Mill River Park) and West Side (across from McDonalds Exit 9). Crimes in Stamford appears to be as others have said angry drivers and angry drunks leaving the bars on Bedford doing stupid shit, etc.

Nights during Spring, Summer and Fall are relatively safe in the Stamford, Greenwich, Darien area and there's often people out and about downtown, at Cove Island, HarborPoint, etc. Glenbrook at night?? Are you planning to hang at Donut Delight or the 24 hour laundromat? You should be fine but being vigilant about your surroundings at anytime is always a smart call.

Stamford traffic signals are the absolute worst all around, especially the ones at 95 along State Street. Way too long for no good reason, always out of sync, and they don’t adjust well to traffic conditions.

Sounds like a light with a pressure sensor that you were either too far forward or too far back to trigger.

Also just blow the "no right on red" signs. They're absurdly proliferated to traffic accident stats (which they accomplish in the same way banning cars would).

If you're only a 5 min drive away I'd consider walking or taking a bus. The city buses are currently fare free and have been very reliable and on schedule when I've take them. BLT also operates several shuttle bus routes between downtown, Harbor Point and Waterside that are free to the public as well.

Literally every light on North State Street.
Stamford sucks with traffic laws. They made the light on exit 9 NTOR because a pedestrian got hit. Since then the traffic there has been back up to the highway. It would be easier to have a flashing light or stop sign. What's stopping pedestrians from getting hit when the light is green?

Go to 888 washington blvd on the first floor. I work at the tax collection office (girl with pink hair you cannot miss it) but in person will also be cheaper. You can mail it, just go to the post office and make sure the date is stamped in front of you because we’ve had people send their check in on the 28th of the month, not get it stamped by the post office till like like 1st or 2nd and then they have to pay interest.

BLT has now opened their surface lot for “free parking” and it’s right across Atlantic Street from Stamford station. They recently hung banners from the fence surrounding the lot advertising that it’s free. The entrance is at 624 Atlantic St.

The parking lot is on the far side of the station...if coming from downtown it goes 95 -> one entrance to the stations -> station -> other side entrance to the station-> Parking Garage.

Also don' pull into the car rental lot, make sure you're going into the full structure.

EDIT: It's called "Republic park system" on google maps and they have a photo of the entrance.
