I agree that we are facing the greatest crisis that humanity has ever faced, and we're sprinting towards that cliff.
I'm all for investing into large scale production of technology that pulls carbon gasses from the air. I just want to be sure this technology works as advertised and results in a net negative of atmospheric carbon. The last time we need to do is scale up something that doesn't work.
There's a lot we can do to mitigate the upcoming climate crisis, but most of the biggest impacts we can make (such as reducing carbon emissions) gas a lot of resistance. I'm not very optimistic that humanity as we know it will survive past this great filter.

We had a horrible event locally this winter when a child went through the ice on a lake and his friends tried to rescue him and went through too. Most of them drowned in the icy water.

Also tortoises can generally be kept relatively well in captivity. Simple enrichment and a decent habitat are all they need to thrive.

Maybe off topic, but: they’re really damn beautiful, on top of being heroes!

Weight loss starts in the kitchen. Fitness is a different issue, although related.

We gotta make ot work somehow, though. Even if we 100% stopped production of greenhouse gasses today we're still looming on the edge of climate disaster with the CO2 already in the atmosphere. The normal biological and geological processes that sequester CO2 move too slowly to save us.
We gotta scale that shit up.

A lot of people find disabled people “inspiring” in a way that is pretty objectifying

Met someone who’s husband died trying to save some drowning kids in Lake Michigan. Learned that often there are multiple drownings, where one person was drowning & then people who went to help drowned too.
I can’t imagine what it would be like not to help, but I know I’m not skilled enough to save a drowning person in rough conditions and won’t attempt to unless I have things like a life preserver, rope, etc.

So now no one gets to complain about being exploited for money? This is a good thing?

I wore a back brace for scoliosis in high school. No one knew what it was and I had to explain to pretty much everyone what scoliosis was and what the brace was supposed to do. What I love about this is that it teaches younger kids about different mobility aids even if they themselves do not have that disability.

Please show me the actual scientific research on this particular process. I need to see the research and conclusions on direct air capture before I buy into what sounds pretty extraordinary.

What a great story from down under! Congratulations, ladies, without your bravery in tackling this rip current, those gals would most likely have not survived. Awesome!

Esky is a brand, but it's such a dominant brand that everyone in Australia just refers to all coolers by that name. Kinda like Kleenex instead of tissue, etc. In this case, Esky is so common that it's basically replaced "cooler" or "ice box" completely, and most Aussies don't use or even recognize those terms anymore.

If you're waiting for "actual" scientific research, is not the implication that there currently is none? Your words there.

Definitely also starts in the kitchen. You’re pretty hard limited on your ability to get more fit by the amount of fat on your body
