Wow, that is smart. $100 investment is certainly worth it if it means finding your car that quickly. Might have to do that for ourselves for the future.

A lot (most? all?) of the more recently renovated houses have sealed brick, and I haven't heard of too much trouble in that case (although unsealed obviously is not an option).
Also, how much insulation does plaster actually provide? And I haven't heard anyone, in any of the historic homes, complain about sounds or smells. Maybe the newish ones.

i thought it was normal for most cities to use public transit for city schools? DC, Philly, NYC, etc all do the same thing. Granted we should definitely improve the transit system here as ours is very subpar but overall all i see nothing wrong with this

To add, even if it has been renovated in the last 30 years, be diligent about whether the work was DIY, professional but not to code (or just weird generally), or high quality professional. My house is actually kind of a mix, so it's not always the same throughout.

I believe Lake Avenue was part of Bikes & Beers last year and as we approached it another rider turned to me and said “get ready for the worst hill in Baltimore”. 🙂

If set up correctly, it would fall under Maryland's recreational use statute, which would mean that the city would only be liable if it injured someone through the willful or malicious failure to guard or warn of a dangerous condition. And they could have people sign waivers.

I have seen them. The Catonsville Walmart, three Sundays ago. Pike and Rose in Rockville this weekend (had to return something).
I can never find them in the city. I found the Catonsville site randomly because I was trying to buy a cheap DVD (I know) at the Walmart. No DVD, but I did get two boxes of cookies.

My car was stolen in January. The police found it within 2 hours because I had an Apple AirTag hidden inside. I had an officer sitting with me holding my phone tracking the thieves every move as they guided a police car to them. They are four for $100! I know it’s no help once you’re car is gone, but I highly recommend everyone give this a try.

It occurred somewhere off of Loch Raven Blvd. Husband doesn’t remember the exact street he was on. He works for grub hub delivery in the evenings. The location where the phone pinged last was not far from Valentino’s (on northern parkway).
Edited to add: the location of the phone is in an apartment building. The police were able to track it down to the apt number but obviously cannot just barge in. They said they have someone waiting outside in case whoever has it, brings it outside.

You're not asking for facts and hard numbers and you're not asking for what u/Moongdss74 thinks so what are you asking for? Are you asking for people to define entitlements again?

>Edgewood residents told News4 that they received no promises for disaster relief and they were referred to homeowners insurance for damage from sewer backups. Some say they have already been told that insurance companies won’t cover this type of damage.
Did we read the same article? No where in it does it report that those residents actually got help. Mayor Bowser was paying lip service, same thing you get here.
This article (paywall) says that DC water later committed to offering up to $5,000 per property for restoration (same limit you can apply for here) which definitely doesn't cover the damage.
>Days later, her basement was gutted down to the studs. She and her neighbors have thrown away couches, appliances and family heirlooms. Some have no hot water because their water heaters were compromised. And after D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) visited the neighborhood last week, Sarstedt was disappointed in the city’s failure to offer financial support for rebuilding after remediation.
I get that you want to show that Baltimore DPW does a bad job when it comes to these things, because they do. Most other places do an equally bad job.
Infrastructure is incestious: you get the same best practices, the same specs, the same standards, etc. in DPW's around the country. They generally have the same problems and the same 'solutions'. Baltimore gets more news articles written about it's issues than DC because it's Baltimore, DC is a World City and Baltimore might be best known for The Wire.

Take the Purple route (free, Charm City Circulator) to the Light St stop (Inner Harbor). Take a walk to see the cool, old, ships. Ride the water taxi across to Locust Point - kids love the water taxi. Walk to LP Steamers (half a mile) for crabs, coddies, and steamed shrimp. Jump on the Banner route (again, free) and take that back downtown (Pratt St stop - you can get off at Otterbein but I’d recommend a visitor just go back to Pratt. Either way, just follow the crowd and you’ll be ok).

I don't think the people riding dirt bikes illegally through the city just want a place to ride safely....
Not only that, but how do you expect people to get the dirt bikes there to ride them in the first place? Not like they are going to load them up on a trailer and drive them to it.

Reply to comment by roccoccoSafredi in Baltimore, the problem isn't a lack of jobs: "We can’t find people to work" - The newest threat to Biden's climate policies. by roccoccoSafredi
I guess I just figured people here are smart enough to understand that part of the whole "lack of jobs" thing is the fact the city lacks jobs people can actually get hired for and live on.
Implicit in the "lack of jobs" argument is the need to train people for the jobs we do have. And that requires investment beyond the means of your average individual who is struggling from underemployment. That need exists regardless of how much you pay people.
You have to meet people where they are. An overabundance of jobs writing cursive doesn't matter if 99% of the population doesn't know how to write cursive. So train people in how to do that. The problem is, most people can't afford the kinds of training required to do these jobs. And if we're being honest, the argument is more holistic than just "more jobs." It includes the need to get people training and support them while they learn.
And also let's don't pretend that some $15/hour service sector job that puts someone on a bus 4 hours a day in addition to their shift is sufficient and will support someone in this city.

Yeah man, all the folks in Baltimore who are struggling from lack of work need to do is take that few thousands bucks they have in savings, move to Austin Texas, put down a few grand for a deposit and first months rent on the average place there, pull their kids out of school, and start working in one of those awesome tech sector jobs!

Yes. I have a running list of things to do. I'm grateful my hot water heater is still hanging on by a thread, because it is up next after I get something else finished. I have a great plumber for the heaterand some plumbing updates I want to make, and they gave me a name for an electrician who is supposedly good and affordable to switch/set everything up to go from a gas hot water heater to electric... He never called me back. So I will likely have to go with the one I used back in the fall who is supposedly one of the most expensive but also did really good work. Paying a thousand or more for every little service is not sustainable.

DC gives people money to fix the problem before it happens, and gives people money to dry out their basements. Baltimore has a program to reimburse money after you already pay for clean up, no one I know was able to get reimbursed. I listened to the city council hearing on this problem the only person who was reimbursed was a friend of the councimwoman.
I experienced this myself for years in Baltimore, the city doesn’t reimburse people. My son lives in DC and experienced the opposite, DC paid for a valve to be installed before his basement ever flooded.
You shared a news story about a single flooding event after historic rainfall in DC when the same thing happens every rainy day in Baltimore. If Baltimore gets more news stories about our issues because of the Wire, where are the news stories about the sewer water flooding from last night? Or from three weeks ago when the sewer water froze to the street? Baltimore DPW, mayor and council people don’t do anything about it.
