Counter argument, the 3ds is easier, portable, and almost as useful. Granted, the Wii U allows more titles, like BoTW and Mario kart 8, but out of experience, I can say that the modded 3DS is very good. I have no experience with a modded Wii U, but I'm relatively sure it's not better than the 3ds, aside from storage capacity

I think wii, but make sure it's an alder model. It has a slightly higher chance to break, but allows you to also play gamecube games. If you prefer more backwards compatibility, get a Wii, but if you want more power, you should do Wii u

Thank you for your thorough message was really informative. The HDMI output is something I had not considered and a really fair point.

My point about controllers is that... the wiimote looks incredibly uncomfortable to play with. Like for playing Mario Tennis is ideal, but I was more thinking in Mario Kart, so that needs to add 2 pro controllers, and 2 wiimotes (because pro controllers connect to a wiimote as far as I know) and you don't always get all controllers when buying second hand.

While this is true for some. I’ve seen some builds for roughly same price as new gen but better specs. It really helps if you know what your doing with a pc and can build your own. If you are buying pre built or having someone build you one it would probably cost more. Either way pricing for a pc to match specs isn’t the price of a car and some people just have a preference of keyboard and mouse instead of a controller.

Well said. And year one platform for all gaming would be nice for sure. Did you own a ps5 now? I think pc is good for alot of things gaming included, with settings that can be ajusted and a garanti for those 60fps the downside is pc has a stop wall (don't know what to call it) for not running games as good because of the specs, where a consol can run all games.

It's not a difficult process to understand, but it's clearly a process that doesn't work. There is no substitute for going out and actually trying these consoles out. You can't just sit at home googling everything in the hope you'll find your answer, because like you said yourself, there's just so many posts, and the end result will still be a 50/50 lol. People need to stop relying on Google, and actually go outside and try things for themselves.

In answer to your question;

Step 1 - Decide to buy a console.

Step 2 - Google consoles

Step 3 - read thousands upon thousands of reviews, with more or less a 50/50 split on which you should get

"Hmm, Google isn't helping me much. Maybe I should get the opinion of real people, preferably within a gaming community, to see what personal anecdotal evidence people have for one console versus the other. I hear Reddit is a good place for such discussions!"

Step 4 - open Reddit, with little idea of what community to reach out to you just search for "consoles".

"Oh look! An entire subreddit dedicated to Consoles! They'll help me!"

Step 5 - Write post hoping for genuine feedback and help.

Step 6 - ignore the "BuT I KnOw AbOuT CoNsOlEs AlReAdY WhY DoNt YoU?!?!" comments.

Step 7 - Review answers to post, make decision on which console to buy.

Not a difficult process to understand, atleast for most of us.

Yes, it uses the Wiimotes, Nunchuks, and Pro Controller -- I didn't upgrade my controllers at all. I can't remember if it came with a Wiimote, but you're going to want at least one if you plan on multiplayer.

If the Switch is in play, I'd honestly go for that. Like I said, a lot of the early releases were the best Wii U games (sometimes upgraded, like more tracks in Mario Kart 8), or sequels to the best Wii U games -- "Splatoon" was hands down my favorite Wii U title (best multiplayer shooter since Battlefield 1942, IMO), and I've thought about picking up a Switch just for Splatoon 2&3.
