You forget the Greek were in a constant state of war and was in fact built to honor their victory over the Persians. So war givith and war taketh away.

Reply to ELI5 - Why are there so many ‘Question’ Scams for giftcards etc, How do these people make money? Same with quesstionare for money sites. by IndependenceCold4261
- The survey website could be filled with ads or other tracking bullshit which earns them advertising or sales revenue.
- The website could trick you into running malware, such as ransomware which pays money.
- The survey data could legitimately be used by marketing and product research companies who will pay money for that info.
- The survey could provide the scammers with enough personal info to break into your accounts, which could enable identity theft, taking out credit in your name, sucking your bank accounts dry etc. Or sell the data to other malicious parties who will do this.
- The cost to operate these survey sites is basically nothing, if the gift cards are even real they will be stolen or obtained fraudulently.

But, wouldn’t the new administrator need most of the same people to manage the system?

It's crazy how fast it goes bad. Last week I had to go to the ER and the first thing they did was take like 4 to 5 vials of blood to run a "rainbow" test. After the doctor came in he told them what tests to run and they only used 1 or 2 vials and when I left 2 hours later you could see the blood they didn't use still sitting in the little tray all coagulated and shit.

The specifies of exactly how the system works varies a lot from country to country.
But it means that basically because you are a citizen of a country you just...have health insurance. That's basically the long and short of it.
This is different from the US where most people get their health insurance thru their employers. So if you are unemployed or don't have a job that gives you health insurance and you have to go to the doctor you are going to get a (massive) bill after you do so. But if you are insured and your insurance covers it you either wont get a bill, or you will get much smaller bill.

> it seems to be in other countries rather than the United States
Indeed, the US is only developed country doesn't have something that could be considered universal health care.

The same thing that any medical institution does with biological waste: incinerate.
Anything cut off during surgery that‘s consodered waste will be burned, blood samples will be burned, and so on. It‘s simply the easiest way of reliably disposing of biological waste and the potential hazards it contains

Reply to eli5 What would happen if I had a big enough airplane to throw a ball around then the airplane turns while the ball is in mid air? by the_lost_cheeto
Imagine you and your furry friends are playing fetch inside a huge, enclosed dog park that can move, like a giant, mobile playpen. While you're playing, the dog park starts to turn.
When you throw the ball in midair, and the dog park turns, the ball appears to move along with the dog park. This is because the ball, you, your furry friends, and the dog park are all part of the same moving system. It's like when you're running with a toy in your mouth – the toy moves with you because it's part of your system.
In the case of the airplane, the same thing happens. When the airplane turns, the air inside moves along with the airplane. Since the ball is surrounded by the moving air, it also moves along with the airplane. To you and your friends inside, it seems like the ball is following a straight path, even though the airplane is turning.
So, if you were inside a big enough airplane and threw a ball while the airplane turned, the ball would appear to continue moving in a straight line, just like it would in a stationary dog park.

TikTok, as far as we know it, isn't a problem any more than any other social media app, more or less.
The problem is our relationship with China. While our countries aren't at war (at least traditionally) with one another, the relationship is antagonistic. We simply don't trust each other. I can't speak on the why for China, but on the US end, China doesn't respect intellectual property laws and has outright stolen tech from North American companies like Nortel and GE among hundreds of others. Add to that the various misinformation campaigns China has used to attack the US and other countries, along with the fact that they've supported Russia and North Korea, have hacked network infrastructure in the US, and you have a very negative picture of China when it comes to US national security.
And it's through that lens that something like TikTok, which has been used by US soldiers who are deployed, and government employees while on the job, and teens and everyone else, is seen under a different light. Through that lens, if you're FBI/CIA/NSA, you realize that it would possible for a silly video taken at a military base to geotag the location, and the video itself to be able to be combined with other videos to map out that location. Or how silly video challenges could slowly erode social norms. Or how videos posted to TikTok of say the recent hearing could frame questions in a way that doesn't show the fuller context. The kicker is that the CCP could get all of this data if they wanted.
I'm sure there's some good ol' fashioned xenophobia tossed in there. And the thing is, the US runs some of it's own https://www.cbc.ca/radio/ideas/how-hollywood-became-the-unofficial-propaganda-arm-of-the-u-s-military-1.5560575 propoganda on us. I'll take US propoganda over China's as ours isn't intent on destabilization. Even though I think a full ban is probably pointless and RESTRICT Act is probably the new PATRIOT Act (need time to read fully), the fact that there are so many who are vehemently pro-TikTok without thinking critically is partial proof their influence is working imo.
Be open to hearing opposing viewpoints and seek out many sources for important stories. You may not agree with the other side, but you'll understand their position, and likely get a fuller understanding of any given situation.

Universal healthcare is publicly provided and funded healthcare. Free and accessible to everyone.
The critics of this type of system argue that the quality of the care is subpar because there is no profit in it for the provider to give good care only the basic level.
Proponents of it argue that other countries that have it do not have any issues with the level of care they receive.
It would be a difficult thing to implement in the US because the insurance and healthcare industries are so large at the present time. A lot of large companies would suddenly not be needed, which would cause a very large number of people to be suddenly unemployed.
bobbobbobbobbob2020 t1_je7vwfu wrote
Universal Healthcare is like having a dog park that's open and welcoming to all doggos, no matter their breed, size, or age. In this dog park, every pup can receive the care and attention they need, like getting their fur brushed, nails trimmed, and receiving check-ups from a friendly veterinarian.
The idea behind Universal Healthcare is that all humans, regardless of their income or social status, have access to medical care when they need it. Just like the dog park that's open to all pups, Universal Healthcare means everyone can get the treatments, check-ups, and medicine they need to stay healthy and happy.
Some countries, like the United States, don't have Universal Healthcare, so not all humans can easily access medical care. It's like having a dog park where only certain dog breeds or sizes are allowed, leaving some doggos without a place to play and receive care.
In other countries that have Universal Healthcare, everyone has the opportunity to get the medical care they need, just like a dog park that's open and welcoming to all our furry friends.

In it's simplest form, universal healthcare is a free at the point of use, taxpayer funded healthcare system that provides and equal level of care to everyone.

An observer on the plane will see the ball curve with the curvature more or less based upon how quickly the plane is turning.
Now lets look at it from someone in a plane flying parallel to the original plane that doesn't turn (and we'll assume the plane with the ball is transparent). An observer on the second plane will see the ball follow almost the identical path as the ball without the turning plane. The path will not be exactly the same because the air is moving with the plane and it will exert a force on the ball in mid-flight, but this force isn't terribly strong--which is why you can throw the ball through the air in the first place.

If the airplane is in coordinated flight (the relative airflow meets the airplane head-on) then the ball acts as the airplane is level, but apparent gravity (G) increases in proportion to both angle of bank and indicated airspeed.

Universal healthcare does not mean it is free at the point of use. It almost always is, but it does not need to be.
The swiss actually have universal healthcare that is not free.
