The funny thing is, I didn't use the word sellout. It's 100% him being defensive.

Is there a Walmart in that neighborhood that I was not aware of? Nearly half the population of JC doesn't have a car.

They need to enact laws where investment firms or other entities like Zillow are only allowed to own a small %. This is screwing over future home buyers. It’s ridiculous

Yeah, vs anywhere else in Jersey City, parking is objectively easier. You could spend zero time in the neighborhood or around Berry Lane Park and know this.
>And that The Factory only gets busy at night.
The Factory does not only get busy at night.
> Farmers markets are usually in the morning and early afternoon.
Usually, yes.
Nevertheless, this would be great at Berry Lane in the big circle area morning, noon, or night.

I occasionally buy produce at walmart and it's never been bad, but like you said it's nothing spectacular either. The main issue with it is that I only go to walmart when I need to do bulk shopping -- mainly for household goods -- which is once every month or every two months. The best place to get produce is from my local grocer. On that note, I have found that living very close to a supermarket and a grocery is life altering. Seriously, having quick and easy access to produce whenever you want makes life so much better.

I can buy that there's politics and interpersonal clashing around farmer's markets, but can also confirm that she's the sort to project Community Paragon of Virtue vibes and then stir up shit / talk smack about people behind their backs. So it could be a "why not both?" situation for sure.

property taxes are bs, as are crazy high rent increases. Landlords should work with tenants on this issue.

Tons of things could be deemed dangerous, depends on your inclination. A vendor could be improperly storing some kind of fuel and too close to the shoppers. Or, farmers/vendors could be falsely using words like "organic" and "all natural". Or anything between those two extremes.

FYI: If you are thinking of messaging your local council person, this is how I modified my message above:
Dear Council Member {Name},
I am concerned about the outlandish plans being pushed by the People's Park Foundation that will irrevocably damage Liberty State Park. The park has been a critical refuge for residents, visitors, and wildlife for generations.
I was eager to hear the DEP's recommendations to create wildlife sanctuaries, hiking trails, community rec. fields, an outdoor amphitheater, and a restored cultural center at the old train station. Unfortunately, Commissioner LaTourette had to cancel his big community event because Paul Fireman's associates at the People's Park Foundation and LSP4All were apparently unhappy that private developers wouldn't get the chance to build massive stadiums and generate revenue from a public resource.
I am writing because I am worried that Trenton is not doing enough to protect LSP. This park is in Jersey City's backyard and I hope our local officials will vociferously advocate for every inch of Liberty State from Caven Point to the northern tidal basin to be protected from commercialization and overdevelopment. Liberty State should be a free, open, and accessible part of our community that balances the needs of conservation and outdoor recreation.
Please help us spread the word to gather support for the tentative DEP recommendation for the redesign of Liberty State Park. Jersey City must be united in opposing the overdevelopment promised by the People's Park Foundation and Liberty State 4 All.
If possible, I would love to see a city council resolution proposed on the issue. We MUST send Trenton and private developers a message to back off of public land.
Sincerely,
{Name}

Did you read the article? Because it details how these giant corporate landlords have essentially monopolized the rental market using an app and it has little to do with property taxes. Their goal is profit not providing housing which is why letting them build rentals so freely all over JC was a slap in the face to its existing residents.
