Reply to comment by r_silvertoo in Apple illegally fired five labor activists, union says | The workers, who were disciplined and fired for attendance-related issues, believe they were let go because of their union organizing by chrisdh79
Oh no, trust me Im like the parent comment: i still love unions and all for it.
Its a shame that theres bad fruits in that bunch that make the rest look bad too
I normally hate gatekeeping stuff but from my own anecdotal experience, ive seen genuine lazy people that obviously do not know what “hard work” entails and use the narrative of antiwork to justify their antics
It is what it is and i think the most we can do is call these folks out

It’s the logical conclusion to the “Skype for Business” hole they were scrambling to fill for a couple years between Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype and the advent of Teams. The core idea behind Teams is probably the first Microsoft idea I’ve liked in a while.
Between Teams and O365, Microsoft pretty successfully pivoted into a business services titan rather than just the company selling the software businesses use. Plus now they can probably sell your data (or anonymized versions of it) AND charge you for using the services that collect that data.

If they understood personal finance, they would know that the best thing they could do right now is focus on getting a good education. Not only is education itself important to becoming a well-rounded member of society, but when primary education falls to the wayside because you want to make child-level wages today, you are likely dooming yourself to a lifetime of low-wage replaceable blue collar work.
Loose child labor laws rely on the fact that many children do not yet know this. Employers find it much easier to take advantage of kids who don't know their rights, feel intimidated to speak up, and accept lower wages because $7.25 per hour seems like a lot to a kid.
It's fascinating how you're so deeply invested in other conspiracies, yet you cannot see that the biggest supporters of union busting and child labor are greedy elites who want to screw the people over so that they can make more profit.

Slack also has meetings and voip, but most people don’t use it as far as I can tell. I think it’s one of the things they’re struggling with user adoption of.

Ive been using MS Teams for 2+ years (telecommuting from home) with very few problems. My kid also uses MS Teams for school, so when theres a parent teacher meeting that can be done from remote, its a pain in the ass switching accounts.

It also exists as a solution for meetings, VoIP, etc. via a single app.
If you're actually using all of Teams' features, slack couldn't hope to realistically replace it.
If you're just using what Teams presents itself initially, slack is an obviously better choice.
Source: I work in an environment that is Microsoft bound for all software and teams is capable of some truly astonishing shit, but like 1% of people actually use it that way.

I am OK with teenagers that are 14+ that want to work to be able to get a job in a safe work environment. Having a job is a good thing, and being able to work from a young age helps teens to learn social skills, develop responsibility, manage money, and understand personal finance.
And I am also OK with businesses, being proactive against unionization in order to prevent mediocrity in the workplace, higher labor costs, slower rates of advancement for excelling employees, unnecessary lawsuits, slower rates of company growth ,etc.
Have a great and fantastic day everybody

:) for anyone who has been misled, EV batteries are very valuable and often repurposed and, if not, recycled.
Just kidding, they’re thrown into day care center and spontaneously combust, killing all inside.

No they cannot. Those things they "allegedly" did are illegal. Private companies still have to follow the law. And it's against the law retaliate against your employees for unionizing.

That thing you described definitely falls under the legal definition of harassment.
Not that I disagree with doing it. Just, ya know, snake is a snake and all.

This is your brain on union busting: "I'm okay with expanding the extent to which a business can use child labor."

Nobody forced children to be coal miners or to work on dangerous factory jobs last century either and many died as a result. Is that what you want to go back to?

Oh thanks! Did you read the actual article, or just the headline?
Here, I'll help you out:
> "Under the terms of the bill, someone must be engaged in 'sabotage or subversion' of communications technology in the U.S., causing 'catastrophic effects' on U.S. critical infrastructure, or 'interfering in, or altering the result' of a federal election in order for criminal penalties to apply," Warner's communications director, Rachel Cohen, said.
Lol OK, you're an American. So am I. Saying Patriot Act isn't going to be enough for me to disregard my entire point. I agree the language in this bill is a bit non-specific (often how legislation is crafted) and could be refined, but anyone claiming they won't be able to use a VPN in the next few months is being bombastic at best.

It's so funny watching conservatives bash renewables and storage, and then quietly install it for themselves. This is while they campaign for more nuclear, while blocking its development anywhere near them.
