Why do you think they want things to get "better" if they benefit from the status quo? Why risk losing power over the working class? Keeping us scared and desperate keeps us in line. Its kind of the whole point.

And I mean, it's an announcement about the effects of a policy they released almost a year ago when they were intending to IPO earlier. There's a lot still wrong with Reddit that'll make for a terrible public social media company. Their moderators are such massive liabilities. The corporate and country regulated subreddits are like Chinese TikTok level nightmares. And then the fact that it still has porn subreddits that really only act as an advertisement for its posters onlyfans.... like.... they got a lot of work ahead of them.

also. nothing stops anyone from making a new account.

now if reddit announced aggressively working with law enforcement to see anyone engaging in revenge porn or non-consensual image sharing... brought up on criminal charges. and here is some success stories.

that might be something.

100% this it’s exhausting how many people feel companies do things out of kindness. They are either seeking profit or found profit and want to add color to give the appearance of grace and kindness.

99% of Corporations do not think any other way. Giving a 1% variable so I don’t have people trying to correct me.

The failing of the Patriot Act is the act itself, or a failure to enforce it as was intended? I'd certainly argue the original intent of that bill was justified in its own right, as is the RESTRICT Act considering TikTok's proximity to the Chinese government. We've also ceased use of Huawei chips in federal devices for similar reasons, so it's not exactly like this is an immediate reaction over a singular event. But if you're genuinely concerned about surveillance and manipulation of regular citizens, just you wait until you learn about how China operates - at least one reason to put in the "pro" list of the RESTRICT Act.

So you see, the problem is that you don't seem to understand. In fact, it seems like all you want to do is compare this to the Patriot Act, and label anyone as naive who disagrees with you.

Amusingly, I think you're naive for failing to see the differences in these circumstances, rather than fixating on the similarities.

>Oh, the line is celebreties. People with money and influence. Gotcha. Not you or I. Our "betters". Just gonna go commission some deepfake porn of this guys mother and see how he feels then.

I'm going to make a deepfake of Jada Smith starring in GI Jane so that Will Smith will come to my house and slap me.
