Reply to Senator Warner’s RESTRICT Act Is Designed To Create The Great Firewall Of America by vriska1
This bill is written very vaguely giving unilateral control to the government to pivot and do more without having to draft or justify their actions.
It’s akin to the patriot act and mark my words if this passes we will see a scale back in freedom of speech all in the name of National interests.
Just like the fight for net neutrality this needs to be fought just as hard if not harder

I'm just shocked Fox News is covering it and making it look like a bad idea instead of praising it.

Reply to A top AI researcher reportedly left Google for OpenAI after sharing concerns the company was training Bard on ChatGPT data by jack_lafouine
Google is panicking. Sundar needs to go and be replaced by someone who can bring back innovation in the company; it's been stagnating for a long time. It needs someone innovative and with a product mindset. If things continue at this rate (and I'm not referring to just this particular incident) Google will have to face the harsh words of its investors very soon. For more context read this: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/03/google-assistant-might-be-doomed-division-reorganizes-to-focus-on-bard/.

Yeah I get the feeling it's less about keeping us safe and more about keeping them secure.

First order should be to investigate who funds them and who stands to gain. I bet it has nothing to do with "security" or "safety". It's all about money and those missing out on the AI race.

Yes, while there is some exaggeration, I can see at some point in the future that personal use of VPN could be used as probable cause to issue a warrant.
Given how some ostensibly written laws have been abused in the past, please understand my cynicism.

VO was a little bit less of a dick swing than galactic.
For example they actually flew paying payloads in a reasonable amount of time, galactic is yet to fly people outside of testing (pilots and that Branson flight)
Obviously still a dick swing but actually did something, just not having enough benefits over the likes of RocketLab, Astra, SpaceX, ect

Reply to Google denies Bard was trained with ChatGPT data — The Information published a report Wednesday including allegations from a former Google AI researcher that the company used a rival’s responses to train its own chatbot. Google denies that Bard uses that data by marketrent
Looks like we can expect lawsuits and recriminations between chatbot service providers and original content owners on the one hand, and chatbot services and AI-consuming publishers and content providers (including hybrid chatbots) on the other.
Unfortunately for the lawyers, a lot of the research and writing of briefs for these cases might be turned over to ChatGPT.

Reply to CEOs are quietly backtracking on remote work—and more companies could follow by ethereal3xp
My company downsized their hq, made the new office space hoteling style so no place to even put your work in a file or have a permanent seat. If we had 1400 people pre Covid in the office they only got enough space for 800. I went in this week and I was one of four people. And I was on teams calls all day. Other than, yes, my colleague and I could chat about some work stuff, it was a total waste of our time. It’s insane to think they’re going to trim around and spend more money to bring us all back to a corporate office.

Really can’t believe everyone thinks work from home is the standard that most people have. I’ve had to come into the office with no work from home option for over 2 years at this point

Apparently the controlling behavior stems from OCD, Anxiety and feelings of inadequacy. No big surprises I'm sure. There are quite a bit of resources for you, just look. But here is one link since you asked. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/controlling-people#causes
You're welcome. I bid you farewell, as this is feeling very obsessive.
