TIL American ballet dancer Tanaquil Le Clercq contracted polio at age 27 in 1956 and was confined to a wheelchair. Le Clercq began studying with George Balanchine at age 12 and married him at age 23. When she was 15, Balanchine choreographed a dance for a polio benefit which presaged her illness.

TIL: In 1567, Hans Steininger, an Austrian politician known for his long flowing beard said to be seven feet long, died by tripping over his beard. After his death, the townspeople built him a statue and preserved his beard in glass. It is now in the District Museum Herzogsburg.

TIL Kellogg's Corn Flakes were invented by accident. A batch of wheat based dough was left out overnight by accident, started to ferment, so Will Kellogg decided to roll it to see if this would squeeze the water out. Instead, they got wheat flakes. Corn Flakes was the real winner.
