TIL: Since 1199, two counties in England will annually hold a competition event called "Atherstone Ball Game", in which participants from each towns fighting over a giant football for 2hrs. The only two rules are 1. It has to be held at the certain street and 2. No killing.

TIL Devon Allen, track & field athlete/Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, was disqualified in the World Athletic Championships for a controversial false start. The starting blocks measured his reaction time from the time the gun went off at 0.099, which is 0.001 seconds faster than legally allowed.

TIL about the female Pharaoh Hatshepsut. The daughter of Thutmose I and his first wife, she married her half-brother, Thutmose II, and was his first wife. When Thutmose II died, she became regent for the baby Thutmose III, her husband's heir by another wife. She ruled 22 years until her death.

TIL that the California St. Francis Dam disaster of 1928, a midnight-hour 120' wave that killed 431 sleeping people and wiped out giant sections of land more than 50 miles west to Ventura, was caused by the dam having been built on a fault zone (in addition to the dam's retention of water).
