I don't think the new faregates will do much, but I'm guessing that people who do stuff like this are also not likely to pay their fares.

Getting rid of the useless people who sit in the huts at the entrance and do absolutely nothing. They don’t provide security, they don’t stop fare evasion, they don’t provide information. They just exist. I think they might open and close the exterior doors of the station.

Correct. They are spending a couple million to avoid losing ten grand. And keep a couple of blokes employed.
I don’t know why they can’t just put one fare machine behind the gate and stencil “exit fare” on it.

It should be obvious, but just report criminal activity. And, in the first instance, to MPD, not Reddit. I’m not talking about someone smoking weed where they’re not supposed to or rolling through a stop sign.
I work in a federal building. Last year, I saw one kid hand a gun off to another right outside. I asked our guards to call the police; they wouldn’t since, I guess, right outside isn’t their job. Another employee standing outside suggested not bothering because “they’re all the way down the block by now” and “not hurting anyone.”
So I called, police showed up in about two minutes (I guess because a gun was involved) and they were arrested. This was downtown and I don’t think they were planning to use that gun to knock over soda cans.
It might not be your problem today, but it will be some other poor person’s (and it might be your problem tomorrow).

he had his hood up so we arent sure if he has long hair but he was of a thin build (not very skinny but a little smaller than average) about our height (5’5”/5’4”) so likely 5’6”
he had like an inner blue thin layer of material that went around his head like an inner hoodie . he tried to pull up the lower half like a mask after we told him we’d call the police. ill try to find an example but it looked like a sportswear thing

Be careful! This person might call you a fearmongering jerk because you’re talking about crime being up YoY (with data). Please join us in burying our heads in the sand. We SHOULD NOT be talking about it! Cuz morale or something

That is my view on gun killings in Republican states . God help us? Vote Dem and let's get rid of assault weapons and no gun sales under 25

Sure glad they are spending $40 million on plastic doors rather than putting more cops on cars and platforms.

Contact the Metro Transit Police. Sounds to me like you’re describing a crime (simple assault, at least). There will be video of this person in the station. At the very least their image will be shared with the patrol branch, and this person can be stopped and identified if they’re seen. Other comments suggest this is a known pattern, which only raises the likelihood they’ll be identified. Edit: if you were on a 7K rail car, there’s likely video of you all in the rail car, too, which means they can backtrack the person to where they entered the system.

And yet, people still get on the wrong train.
It's not a unique or obscure feature...the subway systems in Boston/NYC/LA/SF all have such an announcement system, as do most systems overseas.

In the recent past, I would have said education. I still believe that if we had equal access to good public education, it would make such a difference.
These kids should be in school.
There are also for hire signs everywhere, so I don't see excuses or social factors pushing them into crime .
Must be very difficult being a teacher if so many kids are not interested. You are a role model for those who can and will make use of good teachers

I mentor underprivileged youths and donate to local charities. But I really resent the question, complaining is anyone's right, you don't need a "pass" to raise awareness on a social platform for issues you care about

It's just the NYC treatment. Bc they are only reporting it now doesn't mean it's a new thing. It makes sense it hit NYC later bc they have less car owners.
Many major cities already filed lawsuits against Kia & Hyundai.
